Use Your Ears to Figure Out the ↓4 ↑2 Sequence

We’ve been working on the ↓4 ↑2 seqeunce.

Now lets figure out the ↓4 ↑2 seqeunce using our ears.

Try this! Listen to this Credo by GA Ristori (you can try just listening to a short portion.)

First, what catches your ear?

Next listen specifically for these things, pick one at a time:

  • listen to the bass, where do you hear the ↓4 ↑2 bass?
  • how is the melody responding to the bass line?
  • what are the harmonies?

Now lets make some music! Try to avoid looking at the score in the video!

  • can you play the bassline on your instrument with the recording?
  • can you try the melody with the recording? if you play a polyphonic instrument can you play both lines?
  • you already know the ↓4 ↑2 sequence, see if you can fill in the inner voices!

Next week we are going to look at one of my favorite patterns, the Quicenza.
