And suddenly it became inspiring!

Steve was a student in the Wizarding School version of the Partimenti Workshop last year. I got a chance to sit down with him and ask him about his experiences learning partimento.

At the beginning, he talks about how learning partimenti was initially hard and tiring. How you had to readjust how you were thinking about music. This is totally fair! Learning partimenti isn’t easy at the begining!

Then Steve talks several times about after figuring it out, the “music just flowed out.” Steve composed a prelude similar to the preludes we will be composing for this workshop. Once he had studied the necessary patterns, he was surprised to see the music just happen!

Playing with the patterns that he was familiar with from Mozart and Beethoven and Brahms, patterns that composes for hundreds of years thought were the most elegant and beautiful “suddenly became inspiring!”
